CoreNet Global unveils new board

17 April 2009

Royal Bank of Scotland's director of group property Barry Varcoe has been named as the next chairman of CoreNet Global, an international association of corporate real estate and workplace executives.

Varcoe, who was named as one of FM World’s pioneers of FM in December, will succeed Mark Tamburro as chairman of the 7,000-member organization on 28 April. He will serve a one-year term running up to the CoreNet Global Dallas Summit.

Paul Harrington, newly appointed UK chapter president, said: “The UK chapter is pleased to welcome Barry to his new position as chairman and we very much look forward to working with him.  Barry has a wealth of corporate real estate experience and will no doubt have an innovative and strategic vision for CoreNet Global’s future.”

Varcoe joined RBS in 2002 and the £2.5 billion portfolio for which he is responsible includes 5,000 properties in 53 countries.

Lee Utke, director of global corporate real estate for home appliance business Whirlpool, takes over from Varcoe as chair-elect. He will assume the chairmanship in 2010.

CoreNet has also appointed a number of new directors and associate directors to its board. The new directors are: David Radcliffe of Google; Dino Piccini of DTZ; Matt Fanoe of Coca-Cola; Randy Smith of Oracle; and Tony Shou Fat Wong of Morgan Stanley. They will each serve a three-year term.

The new associate directors are: Erica Chapman of Adidas; Jan-Peter Kastelein of Nyenrode Business University; Mary Jane Olhasso of City of Ontario, California and Steve Hargis of HOK Advance Strategies. Associate directors serve a one-year term.
