Stephen Roots, chairman-elect, BIFM
Steve Roots

21 June 2019 | Martin Read

Steve Roots, who has chaired the IWFM since 2017, has stepped down from the role.

In his time as chairman the institute has undergone significant change, not least in its 2018 rebranding from the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) to the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM).

Roots chaired his final annual general meeting yesterday, at which he took time to thank the institute's volunteers and head office staff for their hard work during his tenure. He called the IWFM's board of directors "“without doubt one of the most committed group of people I have ever worked with”.

“What I see within this organisation is an unwavering commitment from all our employees and volunteers to work together to promote the wonderful industry that we're in,” said Roots.

He also thanked the IWFM's awards judges, who “support us fantastically through a long process to get us to the awards in October. The work and effort they put in is tremendous”.

Roots also thanked IWFM CEO Linda Hausmanis and the “unsung heroes” at the institutes head office “who work tirelessly to deliver a membership organisation that I am extremely proud to be part of”.

In his final act as chair, Roots introduced his successor, Martin Bell, who is currently the global FM operational lead for Nestlé.

“The institute is in a fantastic position with Martin and the rest of the board in place,” concluded Roots.
