Richmond University campus at Richmond Hill

6 February 2018 | Herpreet Kaur Grewal

Services company Sodexo has won a three-year, £3.5 million-a-year contract with Richmond, The American International University in London, to manage and deliver all facilities services across its two campuses in south-west London.

This integrated facilities management contract, one of the first of its kind for a UK university, will see the university outsource management of all of its cleaning, security, catering, reception, helpdesk, grounds maintenance, building maintenance and energy procurement to a single Sodexo team.

Sodexo will also provide a new technology infrastructure to support service delivery and to provide clear performance management information for the university.

The institution is a private international university with about 1,500 students studying predominantly liberal arts and business studies courses. It has 16 buildings on sites mainly in Richmond Hill and Kensington.

Sodexo has provided the university’s catering for nine years. As part of this contract, which starts in February 2018, 35 staff will join the existing Sodexo team.

Tom Laskey, business development director of the universities division at Sodexo UK and Ireland, said: “There is enormous potential for us to support Richmond in its strategic objectives, particularly around improving its physical environment and optimising its use of space to meet the changing needs of students, faculty and staff.”

Sodexo has provided catering, accommodation and FM services to the higher education sector for nearly 50 years and partners with more than 1,000 universities in 32 countries.

In the UK and Ireland Sodexo works with nearly 30 higher education institutions on 50 sites, as a strategic partner focused on improving student experience and quality of life.
