Cormac Fleet and Facilities Management teams are maintaining and cleaning buses on the new Transport for Cornwall bus network.
Cornwall Council recently awarded an eight-year contract for Transport for Cornwall (TfC) to Go Cornwall Bus – a subsidiary of national company Go-Ahead – to deliver a network of council-subsidised local bus routes that are essential to local residents.
TfC delivers around half of the bus services in Cornwall.
To support this contract, Cormac Fleet and Facilities Management is opening a new, modern workshop facility at NewquayBusiness Hub. This workshop will maintain the Go Cornwall Bus fleet as well as a range of other vehicles for existing and new customers. Cormac is an arm's length management organisation, part of the Corserv group of companies that is wholly owned by Cornwall Council.
Cormac said the safety of passengers travelling by bus is of the utmost importance, particularly so during the coronavirus crisis, and the team “plays a vital role to make sure key workers and the residents of Cornwall can safely travel to and from their place of work”.
The company is using an eco-friendly, chemical-free cleaning system at the new workshop as well as at its other facilities. It said the innovative system has been proved to kill 99.9 per cent of known bacteria and viruses – including Covid-19. The system used is by Canadian disinfectant and cleaner manufacturer Tersano and FM staffs simply pump normal mains water through a unit with an electrical charge – turning the water into a bug-killing solution.
All vehicles are cleaned regularly – particularly heavily used touchpoints, such as doors, seats and handles. Bus drivers and teams at the depots are also given the cleaning solution for use when they need it to spray down their working areas. Cormac also keeps the buses on time by providing regular safety inspections and reactive maintenance services.
Al Hoare, who manages Cormac Fleet and Facilities Management teams, said: “We are… one of the few companies in Cornwall to offer an extensive and fully integrated vehicle maintenance and cleaning service. We are working hard to keep the travelling public safe by using theTersanocleaningsystemacross all our vehicles and facilities.
“In addition to enhancing our cleaning regimes, we are also protecting our customers and colleagues by following the latest government guidance, such as putting social distancing measures in place. We will be working closely with Go Cornwall Bus to ensure that we deliver exceptionally high standards in our service as well as exploring any additional services for the future.”
