New Earth Solutions (Canford) has been awarded a six-year deal (plus a three-year option to extend) to treat and dispose of the waste for Dorset Council at its Canford site.
The contract, which begins in 2021, supersedes arrangements with Dorset County Council and Bournemouth Borough Council dating back to 2007.
New Earth provides sustainable waste treatment services to local authority and commercial customers across the UK, helping them to enhance recycling and reduce the impact on the environment by diverting waste away from landfill.
As well as refuse-derived fuel (RDF), the Canford site, which handles 125,000 tonnes of waste a year, also produces a useful [compost-like output] land remediation product from the organic fraction of the waste along with other recyclable offtake products.
The primary treatment point at Canford guarantees that waste remains within the Dorset boundary, assisting the local authority to achieve its strategic waste management targets. The site is an existing operational centre with full planning and permitting in place and has a long history of working with local authority partners.
The bid solution will divert up to 96 per cent of waste from landfill for the local authority, improve vehicle turnaround times and increase recycling recovery by another 7.5 per cent over the term.
