Swindon Borough Council has awarded a £3.5 million contract to Amey Consulting to carry out engineering works on its Highways and Transport Professional Services Framework.
Under the three-year contract, which began this month, Amey Consulting will run the services from its existing Swindon office, creating jobs and employing two apprentices a year during the contract period.
Its team will provide technical advice across several areas, from feasibility studies through to works supervision. It has also committed to extra-curricular works with the council and local volunteer groups to improve green spaces in the community.
Councillor Gary Sumner, the council’s cabinet member for strategic infrastructure, transport and planning, said: “We are in the middle of a major programme to upgrade Swindon’s road network and we need an engineering partner who can help us deliver these projects.
“Amey Consulting submitted a strong all-round bid and the company has an established local presence and considerable experience in working with other local authorities.
“We have recently been successful in obtaining government funding for a range of road improvement schemes and we are keen to start working with Amey as soon as we can so we can use the skills and technical experience of its staff.”
Alex Gilbert, managing director of Amey Consulting, said: “Having had a base in Swindon for the last 20 years, delivering a variety of rail design and engineering services we understand the priorities of the local community and look forward to enhancing the road infrastructure, reducing carbon and generating opportunities for local people.”
