Housing maintenance provider Wates Living Space has won a contract to carry out fire safety installations for Barnet Homes, which manages and maintains Barnet Council’s housing stock.
The compliance contract, worth about £3 million, will see Wates fitting new fire protection sprinkler systems and fire alarms at three 18-storey tower blocks in the London borough.
The 46-week contract also involves extensive fire protection measures to communal areas, including entrance doors, fire doors and corridors.
This work is the latest contract for Wates in the borough following its appointment in 2018 by Barnet Council to carry out maintenance works to 98 public buildings, including libraries, leisure centres, offices and care facilities.
Gary Wilkinson, regional managing director of Wates Property Services, said: “Fire safety work is understandably urgent and sensitive for residents and above all things, we will ensure that they are kept informed and that disruption is kept to a minimum.”
