Student accommodation provider Cloud Student Homes has chosen Reconomy to manage waste and recycling across eight UK sites.
The outsourced resource management and recycling services provider has brought in additional recycling bins to cut the volume of general waste going to landfill.
The sites current recycling levels stand at 35 per cent and once services are under way Reconomy aims to raise rates to 60 per cent by monitoring performance and identifying other opportunities to minimise waste.
As part of the firm’s mobilisation, clearer signage will be installed and engagement programmes will be rolled out across campuses to raise students’ awareness of the need to recycle.
Steve Hatton, head of account management at Reconomy, said: “When a process is carried out in-house it is often difficult to be aware of the latest ways of working, so by outsourcing the service to a dedicated waste services provider, we can provide that ongoing monitoring of performance.
“Our solution will not only straight away be able to provide savings through efficiency gains, but also start to work towards improving the environmental and sustainability targets and performance.”
Luzmari Gonzalez of Cloud Student Homes said: “The support gained through outsourcing really gives us the reassurance we are getting good rates, good service whilst also saving on admin costs that would come from us doing it ourselves. Beyond the financial savings, it is also exciting to be looking at ways to improve our environmental performance and getting our students involved too”.
