Rentokil Initial has partnered with The O2 arena in London in a specialist hygiene services partnership to enhance health and safety at the venue, which welcomed its first live audience in over a year for last night’s BRIT Awards (11th May).
The slimmed-down event, hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall and aired live on ITV, formed part of the government’s event research programme as the UK comes out of lockdown. Just 4,000 people – mostly NHS key workers, attended the ceremony in the live events pilot scheme.
Central to Rentokil Initial’s agreement with the venue, brokered by AEG Global Partnerships, is the installation of VIRUSKILLER air purification technology, which is proven to kill 99 per cent of viruses, including the coronavirus. VIRUSKILLER units also decontaminate the air, by trapping and killing airborne viruses, bacteria and fungi.
The company said: “As our understanding of SARS-CoV-2 transmission increases, there is an increased awareness of the need to implement measures to help control the air we breathe in indoor settings. This follows updated guidance from the World Health Organisation, which has said coronavirus is most likely to be transmitted when in close proximity to other people.
As the official specialist hygiene services partner of The O2, the company will also provide a range of washroom products and services to give visitors the confidence to safely enjoy the venue’s indoor events.
Brian Lynggaard, operations director at Initial Washroom Hygiene, said: “The return of fans to live entertainment events represents another significant step in the nation’s recovery from the pandemic.
“We hope this event will give confidence to fans, and set a blueprint for venues across the country to follow in providing safe and clean air for their patrons.”
Liana Mellotte, director of global partnerships at AEG Europe – operator of the O2 – added: “Live entertainment is a truly special and inimitable experience. So many of us have missed live music throughout the pandemic,
“We want to assure spectators that by partnering with Rentokil Initial, we are working hard to provide the safest experience possible for fans to enjoy the best live entertainment has to offer. We look forward to once again being able to welcome many more people through our doors in the very near future.”
