Lorraine Davis has been appointed as Mitie’s director of cleaning services to lead the cleaning division’s route out of the national pandemic.
Mitie said her appointment builds on the company’s investment in industry-leading cleaning innovations and its commitment to drive best practice to guarantee that “it continues delivering exceptional cleaning services for its customers”.
Davis has more than 40 years of experience in the cleaning sector, working in a number of operational and business development roles in complex environments such as healthcare and education. In 2019, she was appointed chair of the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), a post she holds until September next year.
She has also previously collaborated with the World Health Organization, as part of the Clean Hospital Group, and with the NHS to develop the 2021 National Cleaning Standards for hospitals. Davis has also worked with Public Health England to support the development of Covid-19 guidance for FM.
The company said Davis has experience of encouraging the adoption of new cleaning technology and helping to design guidance for healthcare cleaning to support infection control. She will develop Mitie’s ‘Centre of Excellence’ training academy, driving innovations in cleaning with the rollout of technology such as robotic cleaners that use ultraviolet light to disinfect surfaces and sensors that monitor footfall to identify frequently used spaces where cleaning should be prioritised. She will also ensure that Mitie continues to support clients’ sustainability goals, such as chemical-free cleaning solutions, as part of its Plan Zero commitment.
Jason Towse, managing director of Business Services, Mitie, said: “The coronavirus pandemic has made clear just how important a clean environment is to create safe and healthy workspaces. Having helped introduce many of the nationally recognised cleaning guidelines that we now take for granted, Lorraine brings a wealth of experience that will keep Mitie at the forefront of innovation, ensuring we have access to the latest science behind our cleaning services. With offices, retail shops and restaurants reopening, this will help our clients reassure their customers that they’re doing everything they can to keep them safe.”
Davis added: “I am committed to ensuring the highest cleaning standards are achieved through delivering best practice and ensuring our management and frontline colleagues receive the very best accredited cleaning training. This training, coupled with our scientific approach as well as the latest technology and innovation, means Mitie customers can have total confidence that they are receiving the ultimate in safe, quality, and sustainable cleaning standards available in the marketplace today.”
