Compass Group UK & Ireland’s Healthcare Retail team is working with Northampton General Hospital to develop facilities for patients and visitors.
Compass has joined the hospital and developer Noviniti in delivering a new main entrance at the site’s southern approach. It provides the hospital with a reception area with retail offers including a Costa Coffee and Subway, plus a Stock Shop and M&S Food, which opened this week (13 July).
The retail facilities will include innovations for customers, including ordering kiosks to avoid queuing – thereby supporting social distancing across the site.
Overall renovation work at the hospital includes a new £15.9 million critical and intensive care unit and designated children’s A&E – set to open this year.
Andy Jones, managing director of Healthcare Retail at Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: ‘’We are bringing high street retail, alongside food and beverage offers to provide a great service, quality and choice.”
Jonathan Houlston, chief operating officer at Noviniti, said: “The new main entrance has now finally reached completion following a challenging construction period… [it] will greatly enhance the image and facilities available at the hospital to the patients, staff and visitors.”
Stuart Finn, director of estates and facilities at the hospital, said: "This development has been in the works for a number of years and will provide a new welcoming space for people coming to NGH. As Covid restrictions ease, we hope to welcome our local community to these new shops soon.”
