Mitie

Mitie has won a new three-year contract with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) to carry out security services at Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City in London.

The centres – one in West London’s White City and the other in Stratford, East London – are the two largest shopping centres in Europe.

The contract includes site patrols and control room management, and Mitie will provide training for all 230 of its on-site security officers to give them the latest expertise on security services for retail spaces. The staff will also receive ‘guest service training’, building the skills to enable them to support members of the public and respond to problems.

Mitie and URW have also agreed to put sustainability at the heart of operations by using only zero-emission electric vehicles to help cut carbon emissions from transport on site. All Mitie colleagues will be provided with sustainable uniforms that are recycled once they are no longer needed. The contract will also see the creation of a paperless office for the Mitie team.

Technology will be embedded into the contract, with Mitie rolling out its Merlin 24/7 solution. Through this app, its staff at Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City will receive real-time insights and updates to their mobile devices on security issues. The updates will be supported by intelligence from security analysts at both Mitie’s Global Security Operations Centre (GSOC) and URW’s in-house team. The system will also be used to share best practice and recommendations with security officers on the ground.

Jason Towse, Mitie’s managing director of business services, said: “As experts in providing security services to many retail and public space customers, we look forward to using our industry-leading technology to support our frontline colleagues, helping create safe and secure environments for Westfield customers and ensuring they continue to have a great experience.”
