A collection of essays exploring the expanding role of facilities management and the leadership challenges and opportunities associated with delivering effective post-pandemic workplaces has been published.
Work on the Move 3: Building Better Workplaces After the Pandemic has been co-written by 19 respected industry experts.
The book, published by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Foundation, addresses the new hybrid workplace, sustainability and planetary health, employee wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, and the growing dependence on technology to support a work-from-anywhere future.
It includes chapters on the hybrid workplace, health and wellness, sustainability and design. It explores themes such as workplaces "that are kinder to human beings and our planet, the diversity, equity and inclusion chapter examines the issues of bias and fairness within the FM profession, as well as the potential that facility management can provide to those who are economically disadvantaged".
The technology, real estate and facility services chapters provide insight into the practical business aspects of workplaces in the post-pandemic future. A chapter on workforce and workplace trends provides a global perspective on how all of these issues have evolved over the years and are likely to proceed into the future.
Alexi Marmot, a member of the IFMA Foundation’s 2021-22 board of trustees and co-editor of the title, said: “Whatever new future knowledge emerges, the power and value of remote working, which has been thoroughly tested on a grand scale and generally proven robust during the pandemic, is now more widely appreciated than ever before.”
