McLaren Construction has been awarded a contract by Camden Council to carry out a large works project at the Chalcots Estate in Swiss Cottage.
Technical designs, surveys, and specifications have already been completed for the Bray, Burnham, Dorney and Taplow tower blocks, the pre-construction phase will start imminently. Work will begin on-site soon and the new cladding installation will begin in the summer as part of a schedule of works that will see the contractor working on two towers at the same time.
Because of its different structure, a separate two-stage design-and-build contract has been awarded to John Graham Construction for Blashford – the fifth block at the estate.
The resident procurement panel was a key part of this procurement process, to make sure that residents’ voices were heard throughout the selection of a contractor that would:
- Provide a proposal that meets design specifications;
- Have a strong focus on resident care and minimising disruption;
- Put together the right team and subcontractors to deliver the works;
- Focus on quality in terms of materials, staff, and site management;
- Develop an effective, detailed programme that provides value for money.
We have come a long way since we started works at the Chalcots to deliver a new A1-rated cladding system and a high standard of safety for everyone on the estate.
Councillor Meric Apak, cabinet member for better homes at Camden Council, said: “This is a significant step forward and I know that residents will be pleased to see this appointment as they share our determination to see works get under way as soon as possible in line with covid safe measures.
“Our sights are now firmly set on quality and the safe completion and I look forward to a shared resident-focused approach as we move forward with the delivery of this project.”
