Businesses must continue with rigorous cleaning regimes as workers return to the office, according to the head of an FM firm.
James Carver, managing director of FM company OSC, told Facilitate that as workers return, companies must guarantee that their offices are up to scratch.
He said: "Workers coming back now expect the same creature-comforts they have benefited from during their WFH life. However, with 37% of employees still feeling concerned about their office’s cleanliness, an office’s cleaning regime must be its first port of call in preparing for another return of workers to the city. An office’s cleaning team will be its most important protection against the ongoing threat of the Omicron variant and any future resurgences of restrictions."
Carver said that as staff return to the office, they come with "new demands". He said: "The most prominent of these demands, with 69% of Britons now more conscious of cleanliness and hygiene, is for their health to be protected by adherence to enhanced cleaning regimes. An office’s cleaning regime is so important that 75% of UK businesses are already implementing cleaning measures above and beyond the government’s guidance. It is this fundamental role in protecting the health of workers and ensuring the return to offices that means we must begin regarding our cleaning teams as essential workers."
He added that the pandemic had "vastly altered people’s attitudes towards working life" with 83% of workers seeing hybrid working as their ideal form of working.
He said: "This creates many challenges for ensuring Covid safety in an office with workers sharing desks and varying their schedules. As a result, the importance of a knowledgeable cleaning team that is well-versed in navigating the complexities of the post-pandemic cleaning regime cannot be overstated. Investing in the quality of an office’s cleaning team will be the first port of call in protecting your workers.
“While the end of these restrictions is promising for all businesses, with daily Covid cases still over 60,000 a day, further restrictions in the future cannot be ruled out," he added, therefore "an experienced and rigorous cleaning team can help protect an office against the ongoing threat of the pandemic while also alleviating the concerns of returning workers".
