The government has launched a consultation and call for evidence on the proposed transparency requirements for the ongoing costs of the new building safety regime.
The Building Safety Act 2022 established new legal duties for landlords and building owners of higher-risk residential buildings to keep their buildings safe.
There will be continuing costs associated with complying with some of these building safety duties which can be passed to leaseholders through the service charge, so the consultation and call for evidence will seek views on:
- The proposed transparency requirements associated with the ongoing costs of the new building safety regime;
- The administrative and operational changes needed to implement the new transparency requirements;
- The cost of and time taken to adjust existing systems or to implement new systems to meet the transparency requirements; and
- The impact of different commencement timings and sequencing.
This consultation closes on 31 March. More information can be found here.
