We asked FM recruitment expert Peter Forshaw of Maxwell Stephens to address the recruitment challenges facing the industry by answering three key questions: Where are we now, where do we need to get to next – and how do we get there?
Where are we now?
The past year has been a significant catalyst for change in many areas, and it’s vital that businesses evolve to survive in this new environment. The future of the workplace and corporate real estate is obviously a hot topic for us as facilities management recruiters, yet despite the numerous commentators on the subject, nobody knows for sure what this future looks like. This obviously poses quite a challenge – how do we plan for a future we’re not really sure about?
Where do we need to get to next?
We have approached this challenge with two key focus points. Firstly, we need to ensure that we as a business are agile enough to adapt to any changes in the market quickly and effectively. Secondly, we need to keep our finger on the pulse – we can’t adapt to any changes if we don’t know what’s actually happening. By focusing on these factors we can gain the knowledge and capability needed to continually evolve in such a dynamic business environment.
How do we get there?
We need to stay on our toes. We need to continue to hone our internal and external processes to ensure we can adapt to whatever the “new normal” may be (for example a mass move towards hybrid working or changing demands and utilisation of corporate real estate). As a business we will continue to invest heavily in appropriate technologies that improve efficiency and our customers’ overall experience with Maxwell Stephens, without compromising on service quality. This is further supported through enhanced customer service training for all of our staff.
To keep ourselves as informed as possible, we spend a significant amount of time interacting with our expansive network, talking to industry leaders, and keeping abreast of the latest industry news and trends at all times. Now more than ever, you have to take the time to do the research and know your business environment inside-out.
