We asked Dan Shields, CEO of Shields Energy, to tackle the topic of how IoT-powered technology can deliver energy savings by answering three key questions: Where are we now, where do we need to get to next – and how do we get there?
IoT for energy savings.
Where are we now?
As a country, we are working towards NetZero 2050, but with over 30 per cent of energy being wasted from poorly performing or operating equipment within a building, facilities managers need to act now to fix this.
Where do we need to get to next?
We need to be in a position that we can reduce and eradicate wasted energy consumption, which will, in turn, reduce the costs for business (from wasted energy) and the environment (from inefficiencies) and help in the mission to meet targets from NetZero 2050.
How do we get there?
We will get there with IoT and cloud platforms that can identify energy inefficiency within our built environment. Once inefficiencies are identified, changes can then be made to business operations, processes, system performance and maintenance to reduce energy consumption and cost.
