A time to stand tall
I’m sure you’re as relieved as I am to see the short, dark days of a seemingly never-ending winter grow gradually longer and brighter. Each passing day reaffirms the promise of hope, renewal and better times to come, which could apply to the weather or the pandemic, but I would also include the work of our profession.
The service and support you have provided to communities, colleagues, organisations, infrastructure and the economy during this crisis has seen recognition for your powerful influence like never before. Now you can rise from the harshest of winters with a new, hard-earned appreciation for your resourcefulness and ingenuity, ready to capitalise on the opportunities this new beginning provides.
On 13 September, IWFM Conference 2021 will guide, inform and lead our profession along the theme of ‘Emerging stronger’ so that you are equipped to capitalise on this newfound cachet, exert your powerful influence and help us all to ‘build back better’.
Before we get there, though, we have World FM Day on 12 May, which we are especially proud to support this year as its theme is ‘Standing tall beyond the pandemic’. I hope you will join me in not only celebrating what our profession has achieved, but in looking ahead at what we can go on to achieve.
In the coming months, you may be devising new ways of working, helping the return to clean, safe buildings, driving sustainability initiatives, informing new strategies, and much more. To quote one of our institute’s values, be ‘confident and bold’ for you will help to shape and facilitate a better tomorrow.
Linda Hausmanis is CEO of the IWFM
