One of the historic City of London livery companies is inviting nominations for an award for a young facilities manager.

The Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers, whose origins date back to the 14th century, is offering an award "designed for employers in the facilities management sector, to help them identify, motivate and develop young managers who they believe will rise to the very top in their industry".

The winner of the Pattenmakers' Award 2017 will receive "a small bursary as well as expert support to create a personal development programme, in consultation with their employer" including off-site courses and work placements.

Candidates must be aged between 21 and 32, and working in a management role in FM. An interview panel comprised of senior members from the FM industry including Martin Pickard, Richard Muir, Kath Fontana and David Sharp will judge the contestants.

The judges will be looking for someone who:

  • • Is enthusiastic about a career in FM, or has aspirations to have a career in FM;

  • • Can demonstrate their commitment to their own personal development;

  • • Has potential for future promotion to a senior role;

  • • Shows a high standard of professional ethics;

  • • Can demonstrate initiative;

  • • Displays leadership behaviours inside and outside of the workplace; and
  • • Has the support of their director (or equivalent).

Interviews will be held in London on Friday, 17 November 2017. There is also a Young Pattenmakers' Dinner the same evening, to which all applicants will be invited, although attendance is optional.

The nomination form can be downloaded here.

Entries must be made in writing using the nomination form, which should be emailed to [email protected] by 20 October, with an accompanying letter of support from a director for each entrant.

The award will be presented to the winner by the Lord Mayor of London at the Pattenmakers' Annual Banquet in the Mansion House in January 2018 along with a small financial bursary donated by Glennister Associates.

The winner will also receive the Freedom of the Livery with the opportunity to apply for the Freedom of the City of London at a later stage.

The Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers operates two Young Manager's Award schemes that provide career development support to deserving young managers, including one each year from the facilities management (this is supported by RICS) and built environment sector.
