There are only two days left to enter the BIFM Awards 2018 - entries will close at midnight on 20 April.
The importance of professional development in facilities management is being recognised with two new categories during the awards ceremony, to be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on 15 October.
Anne Kinder, senior consultant at Nodus Solutions, is lead judge for one of the new awards, the Innovation in Professional Development for Large Organisations category.
She explains how these new categories are focusing on innovation in this area.
Why have new categories been introduced and how have the awards developed?
For a number of years we have seen a wide range of fantastic entrants in the Learning and Career Development award category. This year, however, we wanted to raise the bar further and reward proven examples of innovation across all aspects of professional development in both smaller and larger FM teams, partnerships or organisations.
Why is it important to recognise professional development with an award?
Our two awards recognise BIFM's mission to support professionals across the world in attaining, developing and maintaining essential skills in the discipline of facilities management.
A successful Professional Development Strategy will deliver success for individuals, teams and organisations and bring additional benefits such as social mobility, social responsibility, improving the skills base and dealing with skills shortages.
What qualities are you looking for in the applications? What are the criteria for a winner?
We are looking for a long-term organisational strategic commitment to a culture of innovative professional development, both inside and potentially outside of the workplace, for example, as part of a wider corporate responsibility programme. We are interested in how this strategy has been developed and delivered and evidence of its success.
