Last month the BIFM entered into collaboration with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) to develop a new procurement contract specifically for the FM industry.
The foundations for this joint initiative were laid at the BIFM Leaders Forum supported by the ISIG that focused on Outsourcing across Borders during which senior leaders expressed that existing contracts do not currently meet the more diverse needs of FM.
Seeing value in the development of an FM specific contract, the ISIG reached out to the Procurement SIG to explore options. The latter is currently driving several projects to upskill FMs in procurement and will be supporting what has become a joint BIFM-NEC project with their expertise.
The first piece of work under this partnership is to identify the needs and challenges of organisations and individuals working within the FM procurement process.
To understand these market challenges better, the BIFM has commissioned a survey that focuses on the experience of using contracts and agreements, the issues and difficulties parties face when using them and what changes agreements, and what changes improve their use in practice.
The results of this research and the priority actions will be announced at the NEC Users' Group Conference and at the BIFM Smart Client Programme at the Facilities Show in June.
Readers' views will help to advance best practice in the procurement and management of FM services within the framework of a new industry-wide NEC contract. Participation in this survey includes entry into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher for use at Amazon UK.
