Wates Smartspace FM, part of the Wates Group, has been appointed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to support its estates transformation programme.
As one of the largest transformation programmes in the UK, its locations programme is the "key to HMRC's wider transformation", says the company.
Wates will deliver its services at HMRC offices across Southern England.
The five-year contract includes hard FM services and planned and reactive maintenance across HMRC's South Area portfolio, which stretches from Cardiff to Kent, taking in central London.
Wates will also deliver statutory compliance management through its in-house, bespoke Assurance Compliance Tool (ACT).
About 30 roles will be created under the contract, with many going to new recruits and apprentices.
HMRC's estates transformation strategy aims to modernise the government estate. It will maximise how the government uses its assets and help to transform the civil service into a modern employer running an efficient and sustainable government estate with fit-for-purpose office space and modern working environments. The appointment of Wates is seen as a key part of this strategy.
The South Area portfolio covers the entire South of England, encompassing both new-build and legacy properties.
It also includes HMRC's regional centre in Bristol, 3 Glass Wharf, built by Wates Construction, which will provide HMRC with the digital infrastructure and high-specification office space required by a modern digitally advanced tax authority.
