APPOINTMENT: Imtech Inviron has appointed Darren Kidson finance director. Kidson joined Imtech as group financial controller in 2011, having previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he qualified as a chartered accountant.
SUSTAINABILITY: The NHS is set to reduce 100 million plastic straws, cups and cutlery from its hospitals as part of its drive to reduce waste and make hospitals healthier for patients and staff. The NHS Long Term Plan outlines a number of steps the NHS will be taking to reduce its impact on the environment in other areas as well, including a shift to lower carbon inhalers and anaesthetic gases, as well as ensuring that hospitals make progress in reducing waste, water and carbon to cut air pollution and save lives.
SUSTAINABILITY: Sodexo has received an award for the best waste prevention project (non-food) at the annual waste2zero Awards, which offer the food service industry a platform to showcase best practice and recognise excellence. Sodexo received the award for the actions it has taken to eliminate single-use plastics from its operations in the UK and Ireland.
CONTRACT: Waveney Norse has gained several new contracts for its environmental services with business and social organisations across the region. The services range from groundworks to trade waste collections and continue the company's growth, with over £104,991 of new and renewed business so far this year.
CONTRACT: Suffolk Coastal Norse has signed new contracts for environmental services with companies and social organisations across the region. Works include private gardening services and trade waste collections boosting the company's growth to over £137,009 of new and re-won business this year.
SOFTWARE: Engie and C3.ai have launched Smart Institutions, an AI-powered, holistic energy-as-a-service software solution for universities, municipalities, corporate campuses, and hospitals. Smart Institutions enables organisations to proactively and automatically manage their buildings and energy assets to increase sustainability, enhance energy efficiency and pave the way for their zero-carbon transition.
SOCIAL VALUE: KBR has been awarded a UK Armed Forces Covenant Gold Status for its commitment to supporting military reservist and veteran employees in the UK. The company has supported the Armed Forces Covenant since 2014, and its Government Solutions EMEA business now employs at least 150 reservists, veterans or military spouses/partners.
APPRENTICESHIPS: Arcus FM has announced that five young adults have completed its customer service practitioner apprenticeship programme. Throughout their learning, the apprentices have worked on some of Arcus's clients including Sainsbury's and the Co-op, supported and guided by their trainers and management teams.
SUSTAINABILITY: UKWSL, OCS Group UK and Birmingham Airport have struck up a partnership with Newlife to reduce and reuse waste materials. The scheme diverts empty suitcases disposed of by passengers from general waste to Newlife to be resold and reused in one of its six stores.
SPONSORSHIP: Mitie has announced a new sponsorship deal with the Army Rugby Union (ARU) elite teams, for two years with the option to extend to three. The sponsorship begins in the 2019/20 season and covers the union's four elite teams: the senior men's XV, senior women's XV, academy (under-23s) XV and masters (over-35s) teams.
WELLBEING: Arcus FM supported World Mental Health Day on 10 October by raising awareness of mental health issues in the workplace and offering support to its colleagues. Arcus worked with BeneFIT Health & Wellbeing, which trained 27 colleagues from across the organisation to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health. They have been equipped with the skills to listen, support and respond to someone who is going through a difficult time.
APPOINTMENTS: Workplace consultant Office Principles has made three appointments in its Birmingham office. Joe Whittle joins the team as designer, James Ball takes the role of commercial manager, and Rav Kateria is the team's new operations manager.
