North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) has extended a highways maintenance and management contract with Amey for a further three years until June 2024.

Amey has been managing the maintenance of roads, street lighting, traffic management and infrastructure along with winter and emergency response services, since the 10-and-a-half-year deal began with NLC in December 2010.

In 2018 Amey, along with NLC undertook a 'year 8 service review' to assess the performance of the contract to determine if all contractual obligations were delivered. The review looked at all operational, financial, governance and risk management performance.

Following these reviews, NLC renewed the existing contract for three years, ensuring that Amey would continue to provide services until June 2024.

The extension will see the teams undertake a variety of jobs comprising: emergency repairs, patching, resurfacing, kerbing repairs, recurring maintenance repairs, repair of road drainage systems, vehicle restraint system repairs and installations, street lighting (maintenance and refurbishment), traffic sign maintenance and installations, provision of winter service for roads, as well as maintaining footways and footpaths.
