Our selection of workplace and facilities management announcements made this week.
APPOINTMENT: CIBSE has appointed consultant lift and escalator engineer Dave Cooper to its board. Cooper, as managing director of engineering consultant LECS UK, advises governments on major vertical transportation projects such as London's cable car across the Thames and the new Luton DART. Cooper will take office at the AGM in May 2020.
APPOINTMENTS: Interior design and fit-out firm Dale Office Interiors has made three new hires: Matt Griffin, estimating assistant and surveyor; Liam Bendelow, financial controller; and Andy Foot, head of design and build.
AWARDS: Family-run contract caterer Connect Catering has been rated second in the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list. Last year it was ranked number one. Louise Laver, joint managing director, said: "To be in the top two for two years in a row is better than we'd ever imagined and it's the icing on the cake that we've accomplished this in Connect Catering's 30th year."
ANALYSIS: Statutory sick pay will be available from the first day of illness under emergency legislation to address a possible coronavirus pandemic. Kate Palmer, associate director of advisory at global employment law consultancy, Peninsula, says: "Although this won't be welcome news to small businesses, in particular, some will see that it is likely to be better in the long run as employees will not be encouraged to be in work when they really shouldn't be, and risk passing on the virus."
CONTRACT: Interserve Group Limited has been awarded an £11 million FM contract by Complutense University of Madrid. The two-year deal covers cleaning services, the replenishment and maintenance of hygiene, bacteriostatic and air freshener containers, and waste management services.
TRAINING: The new Healthcare Cleaning Operative apprenticeship has been welcomed by the Association for Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (AHCP) and WAMITAB, both of which have helped to develop the Level 2 Healthcare Cleaning Operative apprenticeship standard. The apprenticeship will help the NHS to meet its new government targets.
