The dispute, said union RMT, is over “pensions, payment of wages, failure to communicate and failure to make an offer on pay for 2010”. The ballot result -- 100 per cent voted in favour -- is under consideration by the RMT executive, an RMT statement said.
“Mitie, which recently announced a massive 12 per cent jump in profits, brands itself as an ‘outsourcing specialist’ mopping up facilities contracts in both the private and public sectors,” the statemenet said.
RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said that because of wage discrepancies, “which have proved to be a serious issue for some of our members who have been short-changed by hundreds of pounds, a dispute exists between Mitie and RMT and we have taken the issue to a ballot.
“This appalling situation shines the spotlight on just how these facilities companies operate and how they treat their low-paid staff.”
Train cleaning crews employed by Mitie company and servicing First Great Western services out of Cardiff and Swansea have voted to take strike action.
