Compass Group UK's education business, Chartwells, is to deliver catering services to the University of Salford in a deal worth almost £40 million over nine and a half years.
Seventy members of the Chartwells team will deliver catering to 11 outlets, across the main campus and at the university's operation at MediaCityUK, including 3 large restaurants, 7 cafes, a retail shop, branded offers including Starbucks and Costa, plus hospitality for internal and external events on campus.
The deal involves catering to almost 20,000 students, as well as teaching and support staff.
Chartwells will also invest £2.5m to provide a bespoke new university brand called Salfood. Salfood will comprise of "a blend of different cuisines that cater for the hugely diverse student population" and will include "a mix of street food, international dishes, British classics and seasonal offers that change daily".
