OGCbuying.solutions, the commercial procurement arm for the public service, has changed its name to Buying Solutions.
The name change is intended to clarify the difference between the respective roles of Buying Solutions and the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), a written statement said.
Buying Solutions remains an executive agency of the OGC and will continue to work closely with them.
Alison Littley, Buying Solutions chief executive, said that the shared the OGC acronym meant that sometimes customers and suppliers were confused over the roles of the two bodies. "OGC is about policy, best practice, assurance and coordination of cross-Governmental delivery. We are the largest delivery agent."
She said that their relationship with OGC is in many ways closer than ever before. "Particularly, for example, in supporting the government's collaborative procurement agenda by which aggregated demand across the public sector translates into far greater savings in price, process and resource."
Buying Solutions aims to achieve savings for the taxpayer of £1 billion a year by 2011.
Buying Solutions is also withdrawing the Catalist and Managed Services sub-brands in order to focus on developing Buying Solutions as a single, unified brand.
Catalist, formerly called GCat, is a framework agreement with 25 major IT suppliers. It was negotiated on the public sector's behalf by OGCbuying.solutions as Buying Solutions was then called.
