The University of Nottingham has gone out to tender for an FM contract for a soon-to-be-built hotel and conference facility on the main campus.
FM World understands that a shortlist has been drawn up for the £20m facility, set to open at the end of 2012.
The “eco-friendly" 200-bed hotel, which will be built on University Park adjacent to the East Midlands Conference Centre, will be funded entirely by the university, according to its statement.
Contractor BAM Construction will start work on site this month.
The hotel will feature executive-style bedrooms, meeting and conference rooms, a gym, a restaurant and a bar. Rooftop terraces will provide views across the wooded campus.
The building, expected to have an excellent BREEAM rating, will have a green roof and photovoltaic panels, as well as use ground-source heat technology.
Chris Jagger, chief estates and facilities officer for the university, said that the new hotel will enhance the existing conference facilities.
“It will provide a source of excellent quality accommodation all year round, not only supporting the existing meeting spaces provided by the award-winning East Midlands Conference Centre, but also for visitors to the university.”
In March, the BIFM held its annual conference “Th!nk FM” at the East Midlands Conference Centre.
