Rising talent in Facilities Management
13 October 2014
A long-term commitment to staff development across a range of activities has seen FES FM selected as the winner in this year's Learning & Career Development category.
The FES policy of choosing internal development and promotion over external recruitment has provided the opportunity for FES FM to transfer resources within the FES Group, depending on workload.
Over the past 10 years it has increased average training hours for each person to more than 20 hours a person a year - significantly higher than the industry average. In 2012 to 2013, FES FM staff and apprentice training hours was more than 15,000 hours.
FES FM developed an in-house training academy in a joint partnership with Forth Valley College, based in Stirling, Scotland. The college provides several bespoke technical compliance training for FES FM. It will produce at least 12 apprentices for FES FM each year.
Sixty per cent of the organisation's training budget is spent on external training with third-party organisations. Also partnered to the organisation is Edinburgh Heriot-Watt University. FES FM and the university share information on lifecycle and whole-life management techniques.
FES FM has also developed a management training programme, developed in line with BIFM core competency training and core service requirements.
