BIFM Awards 2017 - Manager of the Year
Mike Gibson, managing director of ENGIE's Qwest Services, has been named Manager of the Year at the BIFM Awards 2017.
Having joined the firm as a graduate in 2007, Gibson has rapidly advanced up the ranks, with his flair for leadership and management spurring him to six separate promotions, culminating in his appointment to lead the Qwest joint venture with Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Having supported the company on more than a dozen key business development opportunities since he joined, Gibson has become a key member of the overall team, having helped to win a number of tenders, including the London Borough of Harrow and the Royal Borough of Kingston.
Speaking about his new role at Qwest Services, he highlighted the value and enjoyment he gets from managing a team of people.
"I take a keen interest in employee development and engagement and this has already had a demonstrable impact on performance," he said.
"Through understanding the customer, their core business and their key priorities I have gained the trust and confidence of senior leaders to enable a new level of discussion around growth and development of Qwest."
In addition to his role leading Qwest, Gibson is also currently undertaking an MBA to further drive his skills and competencies within the FM profession.
"Michael has driven excellence in service delivery and since his appointment has ensured that the core service contract for FM and customer services has overachieved on its outcomes, exceeding all of the performance management requirements at the same time as identifying additional improvements and areas for growth," said Charlie Seward, who has worked closely with Gibson in his role as board chair of Qwest Services. "We have seen a marked improvement in the reporting of risks and successes at board."
