BIFM Awards 2017 - Team of the Year

Carillion's Northwood HQ FM team has picked up the 'team of the year' award at the 2017 BIFM Awards.

Responsible for delivering hard and soft services across the 43-acre site in Middlesex, which houses the Joint Forces Command, Fleet Maritime Operations Centre, and EU Navigation Force Headquarters, the team has continually driven improvements in service delivery enabling it to hold the contract for more than a decade.

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and Aramark FM, the company has established a strong working relationship through the BS11000 accreditation for Collaborative Business Relationships.

Over the course of the contract to date, a number of initiatives have been launched to meet the unique demands of operating at a Level 1 security site. One such example is the capability to ramp up operations at short notice to cater the regular 'surge and augmentation' of military operations on site.

While the original contract was expected that there would be just 24 change requests per year, the team now deal with excess of 700 per year.

Furthermore, the management of the contract has also benefited greatly from the introduction of fortnightly meetings between the team and key stakeholders, such as the Commanding Officer of Northwood HQ.

By sharing ideas and airing problems in a non-contractual environment, identifying new and better ways of working has been accelerated.

Highlighting the critical impact of the team's work to the overall functioning of the facility, Major General Phil Jones, chief of staff joint forces command HQ, said: "Our journey to Full Operating Capability - enabled by the sterling support by Carillion, Aramark and too many individuals to mention them all - should rightly be a source of pride for all of us at Northwood HQ."
